PS3 Troubleshooting Tips – 2 Most Common PS3 Problems

Has your Playstation 3 gone wrong? Doesn’t it work anymore? Discs not loading or displaying? Games or movies freezing? Is there a blinking red light? Or are you simply having problems with your controller? If you answered YES to any of those things, and you really don’t know what could be causing your problems then read on to find out two of the most common PS3 troubleshooting tips.

Problem Number 1

Playstation 3 not turning on, you are getting 3 beeps, and a blinking red light.

The Cause

This sounds suspicously like the YLOD (yellow light of death), or it could simply be a case of overheating. Next time this happens when you turn on your Playstation 3 look closely at the light at the front of your console. If it turns green, then you see a yellow light for a second, then it continuously flashes red, then this is almost definately the YLOD.

The solution

If you console is suffering from the YLOD, then there really is only two solutions. You can either buy a new one or get the old one repaired. First check to see if your Playstation 3 is still under warranty, if it is get in contact with Sony, and they will be able to repair or replace it for you. If the warranty has expired, you will either have to pay Sony $150, pay an independent repair center between $75-$100 or a cheaper option is to repair it yourself.

Problem Number 2

Games freezing or stuttering during gamepay, your screen freezing up when watching movies.

The Cause

The most probable cause for this is a fault with your blue ray disc drive. You may notice it freezing up once or twice at first during gameplay, and simply restarting you PS3 may help at first. However as time goes on you will most likely find this happening more and more often ruining any chance of enjoying your games or movies.

The Solution

If you are still under warranty then a simple phone call to Sony to send it back for repairs is all that is needed. Unfortunately many people who are suffering from this problem with their PS3 are no longer under warranty, and therefore repairs can be a fortune. If you are familiar with consoles then you could try replacing your bue ray disc drive by purchasing a new one to replace the broken drive. Alternatively, you could try repairing your PS3 yourself with this handy PS3 repair guide.

PS3 Repair – 3 Ways to Repair Your Playstation 3

I still remember the day my playstation 3 died on me, it suffered from the dreaded YLOD. I scrambled around in my kitchen drawer trying to find the receipt, but to no avail. Then it dawned on me that my Playstation 3 was nearly 18 months old and even if I did find my receipt I wouldn’t be able to get it repaired or replaced for free, as the warranty had run out.

However, what I did find when I searched online is that I had 3 choices when it came to getting my PS3 repaired, and I am going to share them with you here.

1. Ring Up Sony – This is the most obvious choice you have when it comes to repairing your Playstation console, however it can be costly. Sony will charge you roughly $150 dollars to repair or send you out a refurbished console, and for some people this simply isn’t an option if they are low on funds. Another disadvantage to going to Sony is the long wait you might have to receive your PS3 back. Some people have claimed they had to wait weeks or even months to get back to playing on their favorite games.

2. Go to an independent console repair company. If you are anything like me, and you have searched hard online for ways to repair your PlayStation 3, then you may have come across several websites that claim they can repair your console for you. Although this may be a god way to go if you find somewhere local to you that can do this, however this can be costly too. Most places charge between $75 – $100, which is not that much cheaper then Sony themselves.

3. Repair it yourself. There are many benefits to repairing your PS3 yourself, and it’s not as hard as it sounds. There are many Playstation 3 repair guides online for as little as $25. Not only is this the cheapest way to repair your PS3, but you can do it in the comfort of your own home, without having to wait weeks for someone else to repair it. Another advantage of learning to repair it yourself is that if it should ever go wrong again you have the knowledge to repair the problem.

My last piece of advice when it come to repairing your PS3 is to make sure you don’t have a guarantee or a warranty first. If it is still under warranty ring Sony, and see what they can do for you. Unfortunately most PlayStation 3’s like to break when they are just outside the warranty.
